From the 1st of November the Barcelona world race village, on Moll de la Fusta opened. It is build for the famous race on the 11th of November. From the 1st of November you can see the nine competing teams as they finalise their preparations for the race, enjoy the animations and the concert programme in the days leading up to the start.

The Barcelona World Race is a new two-handed, non-stop around the world yacht race. The race starts on the 11th of November and is to be held every four years. They are racing 25000 miles in three months across the worlds most hostile and challenging oceans. This race will see the world’s best professional sailors from both solo and fully crewed disciplines coming together to compete against each other in teams of two. There has never been a crewed non-stop round the world race in monohulls before. This new concept opens up a whole new world of possibilities in the extreme offshore sailing sport, in terms of competition and race communications. The Barcelona world race will see sailors from two worlds of sailing events. Such as the Vendee Globe which is a solo sailing event and the Volvo Ocean Race, which is a crewed event.

Besides the start of the race on Sunday the 11th there are a lot of activities going on around this date. For example the International Boat Show in Port Vell, this takes place from the 3th until the 11th and is opened from 10am to 8pm. The rest of this week the program is like this:

Wednesday the 7th, there is an exposition of designs created by children from various different schools in Barcelona. They designed for each boat to promote the awareness of the climate change and the wildlife in danger. The location is at Moll de la Fusta.

Friday the 9th, the opening ceremony. This begins around 7pm on the corner of Moll de la Fusta and Moll d’Espana. The opening ceremony will present the teams and mark the start of the race with dance and music. Sunday the 11th , the race! At 10am the boats will leave the pontoons. There are several vantage points the see the boats leave. At 1pm is the official start of the Barcelona World Race 2007. The best viewing point on land for the public is the way along the Barcelona Waterfront Maritime Promenade, which includes all the beaches.

Beyond the sailing events, there are concerts in the ‘World race village’. On Tuesday there will be for example, the Triangulo de Mar. A band from Brazil with a mixture of music from Portugal, Cabo Verde, Angola and Brazil with a basis of language and culture. On the 9th of November, Friday, there’s playing a band called Vadriaki with Mediterranean music from the Greek Islands elaborated with Kavafis poetry. On Saturday there is again a band from Brazil called the Aviaba Project Trio.

The shocking details of Volkswagen’s sex-and-bribery scandal have shaken Germany Incorporated in the summer of 2005. Volkswagen’s former Chief of Personnel, Peter Hartz paid $2.5 million dollars in illegal bribes for over nine years to the company’s labor boss just to have the support of the management plans. The alleged illicit payments were used by Volkswagen’s Works’ Council Chief Klaus Volkert to finance his lavish foreign trips, parties, prostitutes, and luxury hotels in Brazils and Lisbon. And all of these are disguised as business expenses.

The big question is: who is behind this corrupt scheme? Did former Chief Executive and now Chairman Ferdinand Piech approve the operation? And what about the labor leaders in Frankfurt? What do they have to say about all this?

Volkswagen’s Rotten Apple

For now Germany will still have to wait for the answers though there are speculations that Piech is going to be dragged in the scandal. Inside the courtroom just last week , the 65-year-old Hartz has admitted making the illegal payments of $2.5 million between the year 1994 and 2005 to Volkert while an additional $518,000 goes to Volkert’s Brazilina lover, Adriana Barros. The sex junket that happens on January 25 was claimed by Hartz as his own doing and that he has no accomplice whatsoever.

Hartz is facing ten years of imprisonment but due to his confession he will be able to negotiate for a lighter sentence. He was able to receive a suspended jail term of two years and a fine of $750,000. Likewise the state prosecutor has also dropped charges pertaining to Hartz’s misused of funds by participating in the travels and the sex parties explaining that the said episode have minimal damage to Volkswagen.

The scandal that happens in Volkswagen has prompted the German public to doubt their country’s post war system of corporate governance. They have also questioned the system’s openness to serious abuse. Under the system called codetermination, labor representatives are granted by law to obtain half the seats on a company’s supervisory board. This in turn gives them significant control over management decisions. The only problem with this system is that it gives those in positions all the opportunities to abuse the power vested on them resulting to corruption. And that is not all; the chairman is given an extra vote which gives him the power to tip the scales in votes that usually ends with the splitting of the labor and management.

Such type of system normally gives the shareholder representatives the advantage in close boardroom battles. Unfortunately Piech has long ironed out everything and this includes weaving a close relationship with the labor at the Volkswagen empire. What is the significance of this? Piech with the labor at his side will be able to disgruntled shareholder representatives on his board.

At the recent Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen’s new Works Council Chief Bernd Osterloh commented that their labor leaders would support Piech’s reelection as supervisory board chairman in May, if he desires to go on with it.

More Trials to Come

Peter Hartz is the first of the four Volkswagen’s managers that are to be put on trial. Similarly, Hans-Jürgen Uhl, a member of the German Parliament for the center-left Social Democrats was also charged with giving false statements and for being an accessory to breach of trust over his alleged participation in the sex junkets. The trial for Uhl case is due later this year.

By 1948, the German automaker has once again produced 25,000 vehicles plus two Beetles which are shipped to the USA. A year after, the German automaker was able to build 25,000 more vehicles including the Volkswagen Karmann convertible which became the best-selling convertible in the world.

1955 came and a million Volkswagens were built. This was the start of the company’s growth. From company it has grown into a world corporation, building factories and working communities in countries like United Sates, Brazil, Canada and in some major centres in Western Europe.

My favourite past-time during the summer holiday is to go for mountain bike holidays, either camping locally where there is a designated spot for bikers, or actually travelling abroad to try out the trails at an exotic location. Holidays like this one keep you active throughout your time out, as well as give you the opportunity to stay active and fit. Furthermore, one can enjoy the beautiful scenery, whilst climbing up the mountain trails.

People who are new to mountain biking, will feel a little overwhelmed by the amount of hills that they are likely to come across when going to a specific location. Morzine in France is known for its bumpy trails, challenging slopes and endless riding, making it more suitable for people who have more experience with difficult trails. This offers a variety of trails, to which some beginners maybe able to appreciate the single track flatland trails.

Morzine is not only well known for its mountain bike holidays, but also for their daring ski slopes and skiing resorts. During the summer this makes an ideal spot for some sporting biking trails. Local villagers are friendly enough to direct you to some of unknown trails, which could be a new challenge for expert bikers looking for more downhill experiences. Morzine is certainly not for the faint hearted and ideal for people looking for biking all day every day.

Another great place for mountain biking is Spain. The trails of Spain offer great riding experiences, including mountain trails by the coast, long cross country road biking and of course no mountain biking holiday is complete without the challenging forest trails where one can practise their jumps. The Costa Le Luz is not a known part of the Andalusia, offering plenty of unspoilt coastline and sunshine. This makes a good taster trip for beginners especially, as they are able to try some mountain trails, which extend further for miles, however, are not so frightening in terms of being steep.

However, if money is tight for you, then taking a weekend break in the UK is probably your next best plan for a good mountain biking adventure. The UK has plenty of short mountain peaks, forest trails and flatland cross country routes to keep you busy during the weekend. Wales, Afan and the Lake District are two of the most popular bike trails, both good for camping and short tuition days. Beginners can be rest assured that the tutors will go through the trails and give you a tour guide of the area, also challenge you a bit further by introducing you to uphill and downhill trails.

Experienced bikers will benefit from the forest trails, with small mounds for jump biking, steep winding single tracks and miles of cross country riding.

The Ancient Greeks and Romans are credited with developing a number of different styles of wrestling that are still in use today. The sport is easily one of the most primitive sports that can be easily dated back to some five thousands years ago. Ancient Greeks formed the sport out of necessity as it was a means of training and developing soldiers into warriors. They used it in hand to hand combat which also doubled as a means of cardiovascular exercise. Ancient drawings and hieroglyphs mark the walls of some of the great Greek Palaces and stadiums with pictures of ancient wrestlers.

Wrestling history became a means of culture and a right of passage for the early Greeks. Students used to study wrestling as a class during school. It was a respected form of physical activity that took the utmost strength and grace but when used with aggression is a deadly form of combat. In the earliest of Olympic Festivals wrestling took place around 704 B.C. It was common to travel to villages throughout the country and see carnivals and festivals featuring wrestling in some form as entertainment.

As the Roman Empire rose to power and defeated the Greeks the form of wrestling that the Greeks had created began to change. The Greeks felt that the Romans weren’t as adept at wrestling and took the grace and skillfulness out of the sport and the Greeks were worried about maintaining the true history of wrestling. The new conversion of the two empires hence formed Greco-Roman wrestling.

As time passed the sport made its way west and suddenly became popular in the US. It made the same circulation that it made throughout Europe as it traveled from festivals and circuses as a spectator sport. The sport in these days allowed competitors of any size or shape to match up against any opponent. As you can imagine there was some drastic mismatches and severe injuries. Not to mention that gambling on the matches brought out the worst in the athletes as a number of fixed contests were uncovered.

It wasn’t until the formation of the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles or FILA that the sport began to standardize and formulate rules and the sport was first featured in the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis in the form of freestyle.

Wrestling began to become mainstream throughout the states in the 1900’s and found its way onto school campuses. High school wrestling and collegiate programs began to spring up everywhere and are standard throughout the US today.

Professional wrestling can basically be categorized today into two main forms international or non folk style and folk style wrestling. International consists mainly of Greco-roman, freestyle and grappling while folk style literally means the wrestling recognized in the area of origin. Examples of folk style are jiu jitsui of Brazil and sumo of Japan not to mention dozens of other less notable styles.

Wrestling has come a long way from its early roots but has kept in tact a number of the same techniques and strategies that made it popular five thousand years ago. The sport has seen a recent explosion in the MMA or mixed martial arts field which features a combination of a number of wrestling fields. The sport is growing rapidly and is sure to be a favorite of many more generations. So goes the history of wrestling.

Having just visited Brazil for the first time I was amazed by how delightful both the country and the people are. It was a great experience enjoying the food, the South American music and dancing, and the lifestyle of the Brazilian countryside and beach resorts. I didn’t realise before that Brazil occupies roughly half the continent, and the climate has little seasonal variation since most of the country is located within the tropics. Holidays are a delight in Brazil, with its tropical climate, whether visitng the rainforests or sunbathing on the dozens of white sandy beaches such as Ponta Negra.

Tourism is the most important industry of Natal, and Brazil property for sale in Natal is in great demand. We found great value villas houses and apartments for both investors and residents, both new construction and resale properties, and were surprised at the bargain prices of the condos on the real estate market.

At current prices of properties, this can represent a great value investment for professional investors, where the sun shines all year round.
